Appears to do its job perfectly
Bought this to replace my previous Synology server which had only a single drive. Setting up new drive was easy and logical. Copying all the media files to the new drive took several hours but went without incident. Software is significantly better Thant the old version.

Very useful tool
Very useful system but it takes a little bit if tech know how to set it up. Once you have done that it's a great bit of kit.

Good product. So far does what it sets out to do
This product seems to do exactly what it sets out to do. Set up was, more or less, plug and play. I was able to set up a storage volume and share it out to my local network straight away. The remote access also seems to work fine. I haven't probed the security round the remote access but I have hopes it is OK. Only time will tell about overall reliability of course.

Great service
I initially bought the wrong item for what I needed. I dreaded trying to sort that out and the customer service, logistics and the correct product once acquired have all been nothing short of brilliant.

Susceptible to drive damage and poor support (so far)
Initially when I purchased this NAS I was impressed at how easy it was to transfer files to the unit and remotely configure it (via laptop or phone). The backups are not to tricky to set up and you can schedule downloads straight to it; seemed like a good solution for family photos, videos etc.Fast forward 3 months and I get an email from Synology system that communications to the unit has been lost - it's been sat in the corner doing not a lot so I was surprised by this message but upon checking, there were error LEDs. Investigation and a power-cycle found that RAID array had become degraded preventing the unit from booting properly. Interestingly it's affected both drives in the RAID1 array so all my files stored there and not recently backed up are lost! Still unsure what caused this but best guess may be either faulty drives or a loss of power (it's attached to a surge protector so that should rule out a surge).I contact Amazon who provided me with a label to send the whole unit off for repair - I don't have the tools to repair HDD at home so this seemed the best option. I took a note of serial numbers, took photos of the units condition and sent it off. About 2 weeks later I get a message it's been repair and sent back to me however what arrived was a brand new unit (serial numbers confirm this) WITHOUT any drives! After speaking to both Amazon and the repair company (Olympic Shaver Centre Ltd) for over a month I still have a useless NAS with no drives, no idea if/when any replacement will be sent and no information (*or apology) as to where my original hard drives. I have sort of had to accept I won't get them back (thankfully have backups of this backup NAS to salvage most data) but put simply they contain personal photos and information - if you are unable to repair them I would expect some sort of proof of secure disposal. While the drives may not be recoverable I do work in the IT industry and know some data can sometimes be recovered - if I had the drives I'd destroy them myself but since they've "disappeared" I can only hope I now don't have someone looking at my personal files. So TL:DR - The NAS is good but if you don't plan to get any external backups of the unit then put it on a UPS and pray you don't need to use Amazon's repair service.

Just one home power cut and now HDD's won't let me access my data
Awful rubbish don't buy these things. I had years of pictures beautiful memories of my kids. Now I can't access the HDD's at all. A power cut no fault of my own at home caused the thing to shut down prematurely. Now I lost everything. They should have a battery backup...stupid horrible devices. I lost everything on 2 x 4TB disks

Versatile e realtivamente semplice
